Sue Hadenham

My interest in Botanical Art started in 1999 after attending a workshop with Louise Saunders, before this I spent years as a pastel artist which I still do from time to time but could not resist the fine detailed work of Botanical painting.

In 2001 I completed and received the Advanced Certificate in Botanical Art at the Margaret Saul School of Botanical Illustration with Gillian Rankin and was part of the Gardens Project at Mount Cootha, then went on to exhibit and sell paintings at exhibitions, winning a highly commended award at the Maleny Exhibition in 2003 for a Cattelya Orchid and 2004 1st prize in the NGN Orchid festival exhibition.

Also over the years I have attended many masterclass workshops with renowned botanical artists such as Suzannah Blaxhill, Louise Saunders, Margaret Saul, David Mackay, Gail Higgins and Leonie Norton but to name a few.

In 2014 my painting of Hippeastrums won a Highly commended award at the Brisbane Rotary Exhibition.

In 2015 my paintings of White Bat Plant and Asiatic Lily where accepted for hanging at the Brisbane Rotary Exhibition.

I have also exhibited in The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, Floressence Brisbane and the Queensland Garden Expo with my work going to International and Australian Buyers.

Painting to me is always a great form of relaxation and inner peace, most of all the enjoyment of creating a beautiful piece of artwork. I enjoy painting most types of plants from Australian Natives to Exotics but one of my favourites is to paint a beautiful Orchid.

I am also enjoying teaching which gives me great pleasure in seeing my students learning the art of Botanical painting and drawing and enjoy being part of a wonderful small group of Botanical Artists on the Sunshine Coast. . My preferred mediums are watercolour and graphite.
