Kate is a natural history illustrator who has been teaching and illustrating botanical art for many years. In the 1990’s she worked at the Marine Invertebrate department of Museum Victoria then as a freelance Illustrator for publishers such as Lonely Planet, Melbourne University Press and others. Kate has exhibited widely and taught with the Melbourne and Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens and other educational institutions and interest groups. She has Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Diploma in Visual Art (Natural History Illustration) from the University of Newcastle, NSW, and a Diploma of Education from Melbourne University. Kate’s inspiration has always been to express a feeling of connection with the natural world, which she feels is of great importance to environmental and individual wellbeing Kate feels that creating art which depicts and explores the natural world is a great way to nurture, celebrate and promote this connection. Her work retains scientific accuracy but celebrates the aesthetic as well, exploring the tension between science and art.
